Drop Off

RULES AND REGULATIONS

DO NOT DROP OFF WITHOUT FIRST TALKING TO AN EMPLOYEE!!! We use fire arms to knock animals.  If you walk in the back doors UNINVITED you will be walking into the LINE OF FIRE!!!!!

You must call 48 hours prior to appointment if your animal has any of the following conditions:

  • Injured in ANY way
  • Has Blue eye or an eye infection
  • Limps, Gimps, or Falls frequently
  • They are aggressive to other animals or people
  • ANYTHING ELSE THAT IS OUT OF THE ORDINARY PHYSICALLY

We are a full inspected facility so unless your slaughter day is a "custom" kill day an inspector will be present for 100% of the day.  If they deem the animal as a "suspect" their temperature will be taken prior to slaughter.  We have absolutely no control with this.  It is the inspector's call.

We will NOT contact you if your animal is deemed a suspect by the inspector from the State of Kansas.

We will contact you if your animal has a higher then normal temperature, significant abscess and/or bruising, or any out the normal occurrences we feel will effect the quality of meat or the finished weight ratio so you can plan accordingly.

Bison drop offs need to be scheduled for a specific times one week prior to slaughter appointment.

F.A.Q.s

Can I drop off outside the normal hours?

Yes, but this MUST be arranged with Alta Vista Meat Co by Friday the week before your appointment.

How do you make sure I get my own animal back?

We are so lucky to work with an AMAZING online software program called FinerButcher.  You will see at drop off a sheet on the west wall of the corals.  You can help us by making sure your tag information, sex and additional remarks are listed there.  This is NOT where you should put any information about cut cards or processing information.  One of the ways we keep animals being tagged right before going into the cooler is to not overload the abattoir team with more information then they need!
Once your animal is slaughtered a carcass tag is printed through our online software.  This tag contains the farmer's information, the hanging weight of the animal, the order number AND a handy, dandy PLU code.....this comes in handy when we pull your beef out to the processing floor as the PLU code will allow access to the processing team for the assigned cut cards.

After I drop off how do I or my customers submit our cutting instructions?

We have online cut card submission for beef and hogs (click here for BEEF and here for HOGS).

Lambs & Goats require a phone call to 785-499-6829 OR you can stop in to complete a cut card during our retail hours: Tuesday through Friday 1-6pm or Saturday 8-noon.

If you have never completed a cut card or you want to make changes to old orders and need help knowing what options you have please us at 785-499-6829.
